The project achieved land use designation in September of 2014.

The Trust initiated stripping and grading in the summer of 2015. We will be starting servicing and road construction 2016. Intersection access via Shaganappi Trail is currently scheduled for 2016/2017.

Other processes are underway towards development:

  • Begin detailed design (includes engineering of roads and utilities, along with landscape design, streetscape and public art).
  • Qualify builder/developers to start formation of the first phase of the built environment (homes, retail and office spaces).
  • Launching a branded identity to market the new community to real estate buyers.

University District has descriptive design guidelines that will be administered by the West Campus Development Trust (WCDT).

University District will be requiring shortlisted developers and builders to submit a purchase price as part of their RFP response. While price will be heavily weighted in the evaluation, both the project team and development concept will also be considered.

In early 2015, the Trust issued its first Request for Qualifications to secure development partners for the first phase. From the responses, a shortlist was developed and a Request for Proposals were issued to those shortlisted. Since then, the Trust has issued subsequent RFPs for further development parcels.

Future opportunities will be made public and advertised accordingly.
