President and CEO
James Robertson is the President and CEO of West Campus Development Trust. In joining West Campus in February of 2012, James brings with him diverse work experience in the real estate and development industry. James has a comprehensive understanding of real estate development, working in the private sector, government and non-profit industries, and has a history of building strong and effective relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
Upon graduating with a Master of City Planning from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, James started working as a consultant on economic development, housing strategiesand property appraisal. In 1997, he moved to Calgary where he joined IBI Group as an associate. His work with IBI included market analysis, feasibility analysis, development planning and approval, which eventually took him to Ottawa for two years to lead IBI’s planning practice.
After returning to Calgary, James joined the City of Calgary, eventually becoming Director of the Office of Land Servicing and Housing and President of Calgary Housing Company. In his role he was responsible for a large and complex series of real estate initiatives ranging from the dramatic expansion of the affordable housing portfolio to enhancing theCity’s already significant industrial program, while moving forward with the development of business parks and transit-oriented development sites.
Gregg S. Callander
Vice President & CFO
Gregg Callander, C.P.A, C.A., brings over 35 years of solid financial and leadership experience to the organization. As a natural problem-solver with a knack for numbers and details, Gregg has been tasked with building a strategic financial growth plan for West Campus Development Trust. He has worked in both public and private companies for a wide range of industries which include commercial, residential, land development, real estate, manufacturing, leisure and construction.
Before coming to West Campus Development Trust, Gregg was the Executive Vice President of a privately owned real estate company with $500 million in assets, where he oversaw the strategic plan, finances, human resources and operations of the company's four business units including the Canadian and US affiliated companies.
Gregg was appointed as the Treasurer for the Calgary Winter Club and ARBI (Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured) where he volunteered for both organizations for six years. Gregg received a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Accounting from the University of Calgary and then went on to receive his designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (C.P.A).
Vice President Retail Development
Leo Scarello has over 30 years of retail leasing and development experience in Western Canada. As Vice President of Retail Development at West Campus Development Trust, Leo's expertise in formulating and implementing leasing strategies, and a solid reputation with national, regional and local retailers, as well as tenant representatives, is proving valuable to the organization's retail leasing strategy.
Prior to his role at West Campus Development Trust, Leo started Nilexx Real Estate Services Inc., providing site planning and leasing services to a variety of shopping centre owners across Western Canada, including Deerfoot Meadows and Aspen Landing retail projects in Calgary.
His experience also includes working with Pioneer Property Group which later became Bentall Retail Services Inc., in both Edmonton and Calgary. Leo was the Senior Vice President, Operations and Leasing for Western Canada where he assembled and managed a leasing team to service regional malls, power centres and specialty retail. Leo is a graduate from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
Director, Marketing and Communications
Maureen Henderson's two decades of marketing and communications leadership are rooted in advocacy and practical, frontline real estate and development experience. Her position with West Campus Development Trust is the natural result of a career that has ranged across residential, construction, development, tourism, hospitality and the not-for-profit industries.
Prior to joining us, Maureen held a senior leadership role with TELUS Spark, and helped drive Albi Homes to two victories at the Calgary Regional Home Builders' Association SAM Awards. In all of these positions, her work was defined by performance driven strategy, big picture thinking, and meaningful storytelling.
The essence of Maureen Henderson's communications philosophy is what she calls the "engagement potion": it's always possible to write, implement and deliver a message, but true communication and change requires active advocacy. From Brookfield Residential to Sheraton Hotels, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers to the Calgary Flames, Maureen has worked in and around the industries that align to make this civic community a true home. Her leadership ability paired with experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams positions her to advance West Campus Development Trust by supporting, developing and influencing integrated marketing strategies and tactic as well as managing public engagement.
Senior Development Manager
Travis Oberg has more than 10 years of experience in the development industry, most recently as Development Manager with Qualico Communities since 2007, and Project Manager with Stantec Consulting from 2001. In his role at Qualico, Travis was responsible for management of five prominent Calgary communities (residential and commercial) with a total construction value of $132M.
Travis’ educational background in real estate development and geomatics complement his proven experience in all aspects of land development, with specific expertise in planning, project management, public consultation, and sustainability.
As a member of the Urban Development Institute – Calgary, Travis chairs the Environmental Committee and has consulted on the Calgary Municipal Development Plan (MDP), receiving commendation for exceptional service fromwithin the industry and municipal partners.
Travis is passionate about innovative problem solving, excellence in community planning, and sustainability.
Senior Real Estate Manager
Deanna Romney joined the WCDT team in 2014. Since then, she has been responsible for key projects within the Trust’s corporate and sustainability portfolios, including partner procurement and the planning and implementation of environmental initiatives tied to community design. Deanna has private and public sector experience, working previously for Walton Development and Management and The City of Calgary’s Office of Land Servicing and Housing on transit-oriented development and industrial projects.
Deanna has a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and has completed the Real Estate Development Certificate Program, both from the University of Calgary. She is an active member and volunteer with Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Calgary and a proud native Calgarian.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Ruby Gill is a Digital Marketing & communications specialist with rich experience across a range of sectors in marketing, branding, communication, and community engagement. Prior to joining West Campus Development Trust, Ruby was the Digital Communications and Marketing Advisor for the Calgary Regional Partnership (Regional Smart Growth and Sustainable Planning Organization), and previous to that she held the role of Marketing and Leasing Manager at OPUS Corporation (Office, Retail and Industrial Real Estate Developer).
A past winner of the BOMA Advertising award and recent team recipient of the 2016 Minister's Award of Excellence for Transit/Accessible Transportation Innovation, Ruby has developed a passion for smart community development and an expertise in messaging and listening within the city and neighborhoods that she loves. Ruby's recent work with the Calgary Regional partnership was a role that involved constant public and community outreach to create a consultation-based marketing and communication plan for regional transit, as well as sustainable smart growth initiatives related to the Calgary Metropolitan Plan.
She has been an active volunteer for the Circle For Aboriginal Relations non-profit organization since 2011 and has also previously sat as the Marketing Committee Chair for NAIOP (National Commercial Real Estate Association) in 2010/2011. Her near-decade of post-secondary education includes graduating from Kwantlen University's Public Relations and Journalism Program, a Marketing Management Program and in her spare time has been busy in trying to complete her Master's Certificate in Design at SAIT.
Josh Delannoy has over 7 years of residential, multi-family and commercial development experience in Calgary & surrounding municipalities. In his role as Development Coordinator at West Campus Development Trust, Josh's background in project management will provide problem-solving and big picture thinking to ensure the Trusts' projects are completed on time and on budget.
Prior to joining the Trust, Josh was a consultant for Stantec Consulting Ltd in their Community Development sector, and was responsible for the management of several green and brownfield developments located in Calgary, Okotoks and Airdrie. In this role, his responsibilities included budgeting and scheduling of projects, tender preparation and construction administration.
Josh has a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from SAIT and is actively pursuing his Professional Technologist, and Project Management Professional designations from ASET as well as the Project Management Institute. He is an active volunteer, most recently with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and area.
Originally from Ireland, Maeve moved to Calgary in 2010 and joined the Trust in 2015, bringing her 20 years’ experience as an executive assistant to the team. Maeve ensures the smooth operation of all aspects related scheduling, travel, correspondence, and action items for the President & CEO and the Board of Directors.
Maeve’s 20 years’ experience has contributed to her extensive knowledge of business and operational procedures, including proficiency in BoardBooks and Microsoft Office tools. Maeve is adept at maneuvering, executing and providing guidance towards achievement of the organizational mission via her support role to the executive team. She also represents the Trust on key project initiatives and committees related to office administration.
Office Administrator & Accounting Support
Lisa comes to the Trust with 12 years of experience in all things office management with a background of providing human resources, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and health and safety management to companies in oil and gas and construction industries. At the Trust, in addition to her administration responsibilities, Lisa leads the health and safety program, assists senior management, oversees the daily operations and contracts administration.
Throughout her career, Lisa has been tasked with sales and marketing efforts, helping at least one of her employers earn recognition as one of Alberta’s Fastest Growing Companies and become one of the Business Leaders of Tomorrow in Calgary. She enjoys finding ways to use her professional skills to support her volunteer interests, planning a fundraising event for Children’s Wish Foundation, participating with Scotiabank Calgary Marathon and recently in the Walk to Fight Arthritis.
